Alila Anji
Tianhuangping, above the reservoir
The international-luxury benchmark: 61 suite-style villas in a tea-and-bamboo valley, a superb spa and a sunset pool. Lowest-stress choice for a special occasion.
Eight stays we have personally walked through, across every price band — with one honest sentence about each, including the ones we would not book for a family with toddlers.
Short answer: for a first trip with family, book a character homestay in the Tianhuangping bamboo slopes (¥500–900) — closest to Yunshang Grassland and the Bamboo Sea, with farmhouse dinners included. For a special occasion, Alila Anji (¥2,000+) is the only genuinely international-luxury option. For café culture, stay in the Xiaoyin Half-Day Village cluster.
Full-service properties with a front desk, a restaurant and English-speaking staff. Book these when you want nothing to think about.

Family-run houses, four to twelve rooms, dinner cooked by your host. Book these when you want to understand where you are.
Biwu village, quiet valley
The homestay group that defined modern Chinese rural design. Stone-and-glass houses, a great breakfast, and a village lane you can actually hear birds in.
